USKA BBB server is being upgraded

Deutsche Version: USKA BBB-Server wird aufgerüstet
Version française: Mise à niveau du serveur BBB de l’USKA
English version: USKA BBB server is being upgraded

The USKA server, which was purchased over a year ago as a test (“proof of concept”), is now reaching its performance limit.  This is at around sixty BBB participants present at the same time, spread over various independent simultaneous meetings.
If we want to attract more young members, we must not only offer modern club content, but also contemporary forms of social communication. The USKA’s HamGroups, which also offer «newcomers» topic-focused communities in which they can discuss with Hams interested in the same topic, serve this purpose in particular.

For our members, the following services are currently available on the current server:

  •     BigBlueButton.org video conference server
    •     BBB moderator account (free for members. Currently about 200 members use this service)
    •     Board meetings of the USKA Sections
    •     during the pandemic: online section committees’ meetings and online lectures – club life could continue.
    •     During the pandemic: USKA Board meetings
    •     USKA Delegates Assembly 2021
    •     Section Presidents’ Conference 2020 and five online SPCs since then
    •     Several online amateur radio courses use our platform
    •     Question hours of the President and the Board
    •     All HamWebinars (with several hundred participants so far) and, since the beginning of the pandemic, also our HamAcademy
    •     HamGroups.ch regulars’ BBB-Meetings/Stammtisch (currently 19 in operation, to be developed to 30 by the end of 2021)
    •     On many evenings, four to six independent meetings with up to 60 participants take place simultaneously on the BBB server.
  •     Moodle: Repository, forum, etc
    •     HamAcademy school environment, content structure, data repository, forum
    •     Important part of HamGroups.ch for data repository, meeting minutes, HamGroup-internal forum etc
    •     Amateur radio courses of sections and collective members on request

Decided by the USKA Board, it is planned to put the new server into operation before the end of 2021.
