Activation HB9WARD – Operators wanted

The IARU (International Amateur Radio Union) was founded on April 18, 1925. Every year, this event is honored worldwide with the World Amateur Radio Day. The USKA and Swiss radio amateurs do this by activating the association callsign HB9WARD on this day. The operation is carried out by interested operators – individuals or groups and clubs – from their respective locations. If even outsiders can be informed and motivated to use amateur radio during the activations, all the better.

When: Thursday, April 18, 2024, 00:00 – 23:59 UTC (i.e. 02:00 – 01:59 CEST).

Bands: 160m, 80m, 40m, 20m, 15m, 10m, 2m, QO-100.

Operating modes: SSB, CW, FT8.

Other approved amateur radio bands and operating modes are also possible if interested and after consultation. Attention: No special activities are permitted on the WARC bands (30m, 17m, 12m).

Maximum power: in accordance with Swiss legislation.

Activation of the callsign HB9WARD

Interested radio amateurs with QTH in Switzerland can activate the callsign.

Register at hb9ward@uska.ch with the following details:

  • Callsign of the operator / club.
  • QTH (locator, canton, zip code).
  • Adopted time window (from-to; in UTC).
  • Band and operating mode.

A confirmation with logging information is sent. An occupancy plan is also published on this USKA website on an ongoing basis.

The aim is to be active in as many bands and operating modes as possible. Only one station per band and operating mode may be QRV at any one time.
